Tutoring

We believe that learning should be a joyful journey. That’s why our reading and writing tutoring is tailored to meet your student’s unique needs—whether in-person or online, in one-on-one, semi-private, or small group sessions.

We help children at every stage of learning, from recognizing the alphabet to understanding what they read, building confidence, and starting creative writing projects. Most importantly, we support your child’s growth at their own pace.

To support a small number of families, we also offer elementary math tutoring using the Singapore Math method. This method teaches students math concepts step-by-step, helping them solve math problems with confidence and ensuring they receive the personalized support they need to succeed.

Description

At RAWR, we know that each child is unique. That’s why we customize our tutoring to fit your child’s specific needs, whether they are just starting to read or looking to become a stronger writer.

  • Reading Support: Our reading sessions help students read fluently, improve comprehension, and build vocabulary. We focus on creating a strong foundation in reading skills and helping your child become a confident reader.

  • Writing Support: Our writing sessions strengthen your child’s skills, from organizing ideas to expressing thoughts clearly. We guide them step-by-step to turn their ideas into essays, stories, and creative pieces that reflect their unique voice.

  • Personal Projects: For young writers working on personal projects, we offer mentorship and guidance. Whether it’s a short story, a personal essay, a series of poems, or a special journal, we help bring your child’s ideas to life.

  • Elementary Math Tutoring: We also offer a limited number of math tutoring spots. Our math tutoring is based on the Singapore Math method. This method helps students build a strong understanding of math concepts step-by-step, developing both problem-solving skills and confidence.

Our goal is to help each student grow both academically and personally. We focus on building their confidence, encouraging creativity, and celebrating progress every step of the way. At RAWR, your child will develop stronger reading and writing skills and discover their own unique strengths as a learner. We want every child to feel proud of their accomplishments and know that their ideas matter.

Questions & Answers

  • A typical tutoring session lasts for one hour, as we’ve found this duration to be effective for keeping students engaged and focused. For younger students (ages 3–7), we recommend breaking the session into two 30-minute blocks to match their attention span. If needed, we can adjust session lengths based on your child’s age and learning goals.

  • Currently, we’re not a vendor at a local charter school, but we’d love to work on becoming one! Suggest us to your charter school, and they can reach out to us to discuss the next steps. When you suggest us, it helps speed up the approval process. We’re also actively working on becoming vendors for Cabrillo Point Academy and Suncoast.

  • We typically recommend one to two sessions per week. This frequency provides enough time for students to practice new concepts while balancing other commitments. As your child progresses, we’ll work with you to adjust the frequency based on their needs—whether they need extra support before a big project or fewer sessions as they gain independence.

  • We specialize in reading and writing for students of all ages. Additionally, we offer a limited number of elementary math tutoring sessions using the Singapore Math method.

  • We tutor students ranging from preschool (3 years old) through high school. For younger students, we recommend shorter sessions to match their attention span and learning needs.

  • Yes, we offer both. You can choose the format that best fits your family’s schedule and preferences. Online sessions are held via Zoom, while in-person sessions are typically held at a local library or at our reserved space at 16480 Bake Parkway, Irvine, CA, 92618. Our goal is to eventually open a beautiful and accessible central Irvine location for reading classes, writing workshops, and more!

  • We’re excited to meet you and your child! To get started, email us to schedule a free 40-minute Meet & Greet so we can get to know each other and learn more about how to help your child. During this time, we’ll talk about your student’s learning goals, assess their current skills, and answer any questions you have. After the Meet & Greet, we’ll work together to choose a tutoring package that best fits your child’s needs.

If you have any questions before scheduling, feel free to reach out to us—we’re here to help!

  • We require 24-hour notice for cancellations to reschedule a session without penalty. If less than 24-hour notice is given, the session will be charged as planned. Please reach out to us as soon as possible if you need to adjust your schedule.

  • Yes! We offer a 10% discount off tuition for as long as the new family you refer remains a client. This referral discount applies to both the referring family and the new family.

  • For children ages 3 to 7, tutoring is primarily play-based and is tailored to your child’s learning style and energy. For example, children who enjoy pretend play have the opportunity to meet, play, and teach one of our RAWR story characters with learning games and through original stories.
