Step 1: Share
Young writers submit their writing as a Google document or PDF, along with responses to a short questionnaire that helps mentors understand their thoughts and intentions. This could include what inspired their work, what they’re proud of, and any challenges they’re facing. This personal touch ensures feedback is tailored and meaningful.
Step 2: Receive
Our Writing Mentors review submissions within 2-3 days, providing feedback that’s both constructive and encouraging. For older students, this includes interactive comments on a Google Doc, fostering a dialogue that enriches the learning experience. Younger writers get annotated feedback and a supportive video, making the feedback process engaging and understandable.
Step 3: Reflect
After reviewing their feedback, students can choose to revise their work or start on a new piece, applying what they’ve learned. This cycle of writing, receiving feedback, and refining skills helps young writers develop confidence and passion for writing.

For their end-of-year projects, we encourage all RAWR students to submit at least one writing piece for publication. Publication is not required. We want our students to enjoy the process—the journey of writing and publishing—more than the product.
With that said, we’re excited about publishing a printed anthology of our students’ writings! We’ll be self-publishing the anthology via print-on-demand with an expected release date of Winter 2024. Each student can pick up their complimentary printed copy at the Samantha B. Literary office once they’re available or during the RAWR Book Party event.

Unfortunately, no. We are not yet a vendor at a local charter school. Email us what charter school you are a part of, and we will work on becoming an approved vendor.
Currently, we are in the process of becoming vendors for Cabrillo Point Academy and Suncoast for the 2023-2024 school year. Please also suggest us a vendor to your charter school.

We encourage students to view feedback as a dialogue rather than a directive. If a student has questions or disagrees with a piece of feedback, they are encouraged to discuss it further with their mentor. This process helps develop critical thinking and self-advocacy skills in young writers.

Yes, students can submit a wide range of writing, including essays, book reports, creative stories, and more. Our goal is to support and enhance their writing skills, regardless of the format or genre.
Whether your student is homeschooled or needs more personalized attention that can’t be provided in the classroom, the Online Writing Center is meant to be a strong supplement and cultivator of their writing skills.

For older students, the feedback process is interactive, allowing them to ask follow-up questions directly on the Google Doc. Younger students can express any further questions they might have after reviewing their written feedback and video. Our mentors are here to engage and clarify any doubts.

We strive to make our program accessible to all students, including those with special educational needs. Please reach out to us with specific requirements or concerns, and we will work with you to provide accommodations and tailor our feedback approach to meet your child’s needs.

To maximize the benefits of the Online Writing Center, we recommend that students regularly submit their writings, thoughtfully consider and apply the feedback received, and engage in follow-up discussions with their mentors when they have questions. Encouraging your child to reflect on their writing process and be open to constructive criticism will also enhance their learning experience.

No, we prioritize consistency in the mentorship experience.
As much as possible, we aim to maintain the same Writing Mentor for your child throughout their journey in our Online Writing Center. We believe that building a strong, understanding relationship between your child and their mentor can significantly enhance the learning and development process. This approach allows the mentor to deeply understand your child’s writing style, strengths, challenges, and growth over time, providing more personalized and impactful feedback. However, should there be any changes required due to unforeseen circumstances, we ensure a smooth transition and maintain the high quality of mentorship your child deserves.
